BBQ Fundamentals

Where better to learn how to cook on a BBQ than UK BBQ School in deepest darkest Devon.

This class is intended for people who are looking to get into real BBQ, how to control heat in a BBQ, which fuel, smoke and food combinations work well.

You will learn how to make a dry rub, and when best to apply it, and when to apply a sauce or baste. Simple BBQ dishes will be cooked such as chicken thighs, steaks and roasts.

The atmosphere is lovely and laid back, you will take lots of new ideas and techniques away to get you inspired to cook outdoors.

The class will have 3 hours of teaching/cooking, and then an hour to enjoy eating the food we have cooked, chat and ask questions.

Intermediate BBQ Skills

The class will include ribs, bacon weaving and how to make a fatty, and I will look to be doing BBQ scotch eggs, there will also be a bit of reverse seared steak action.

This will include a full belly and a drink, beer, cider, wine and soft drinks available.

The Intermediate BBQ Skills class is for those who are looking to step up their BBQ, and take their basic skills to another level.

The class will have 4 hours of teaching/cooking, and then an hour to enjoy eating the food we have cooked, chat and ask questions.

Live Fire Class

The class will only use wood to cook with as a fuel source. This is a more advanced class than the intermediate with a different skill set. Braai and asado will be the main focus, with a deep dive into getting the most out of fire pits and open fire cooking.

This will include a full belly and a drink, beer, cider, wine and soft drinks available.

The Live Fire class is for those who are looking to try something new and exciting with their outdoor cooking, and take their skills to another level.

The class will have 3 hours of teaching/cooking, and then an hour to enjoy eating the food we have cooked, chat and ask questions.

Introduction to Wood Fired Oven Cooking (Gozney)

Wood fired Oven class

The class will be an introduction to cooking in Wood fired ovens using the Gozney Dome and Roccbox. So many people only ever cook pizza in their wood fired ovens, so we will be using the Gozney Domes in wood fired mode, and the Roccboxes in gas or wood fired.

We will of course all get hands on with pizzas, with plenty of tips and tricks.

This will include a full belly and a drink, beer, cider, wine and soft drinks available.

This class is for those who are looking to try something new and exciting with their outdoor cooking/wood fired ovens, and take their skills to another level.

The class will have 4 hours of teaching/cooking, and then an hour to enjoy eating the food we have cooked, chat and ask questions.

BBQ Cooking & Baking

Would you like to learn how to get the most out of learning to cook on your BBQ? How about cooking a cake, bread or even a pavlova? Sue is an award winning home cook, blogger, food writer and BBQ enthusiast.

A few hours spent with Sue, here at the UKBBQ School, will inspire you to ‘fire up and get cooking’ a wide range of tasty seasonal dishes on different types of bbqs.  She will soon have you mixing dough for bread and flatbreads, whisking up delicious cakes and showing you how to get the most out of your bbq by cooking a complete meal in and on it.  There will be plenty of opportunity to get a ‘hands on’ experience and a chance to ask any culinary questions you may have, be it about bbq or home cooking.

The course runs from 9.45am – 2pm (approx). Drinks (hot and cold) will be available throughout the day.

Working with an experienced Indian Cookery Tutor, you will not only learn how to cook Indian food on a BBQ you will also be given the opportunity to make your own spice mix which will then be used to marinade your own Gujarati chicken skewers. Nila’s tutor and mentor is indeed her mother
